THE NIGHT

I like the night
even in the city
where the hum never quite goes away.
The noise is somehow different —
muted, perhaps —
from the daytime's
hive of
bees.

The lights brighten the places
where they shine,
but their blues and oranges
are not the natural colours
of the moon and sun —
and they add to
the light
pollution.

Yet those also
illuminate the way
helping us find
the places to step.
And, overall, they cast
a gentler mantle
on the
earth.

  5. I don't know why I'm just clicking to get here. :) I'll slow down, stop by, and absorb sometimes.

How nice that you have the poetic gift of expression.

    1. Well, I'm not quite sure about that gift. But like anything else, either I grow it, or it will die. So I am choosing to write poetry; it's something new for me in retirement. Yes; you can teach an old Bear new ticks.

Frankly, I didn't know I had it in me — and like you, people have been very encouraging!

  10. That must be the most beautiful bear poem I've ever read. I haven't read many bear poems, but still ... quite lovely! :)

    1. Thank you Kristen. There is a part two to this, and perhaps a part three. If I can get everything settled from my A-Z Challenge 2013, that poem is the next thing on the list. Sadly, I feel like I keep meeting myself coming around corners. GRRRrrrr.

      Yes, I'm feeling very unsettled.

  11. A fine bear poem, indeed. And if anyone has studied lighting upon the earth I would believe it to be a Bear, so this poem speaks the lovely truth.

    1. Thank you, Lydia. In our apartment, as opposed to our house (previously), we're in the midst of a well-lit park. Here I can study night and dark, and imagine the subtle interplay.
